A study conducted in Auckland, Nz has found that best electronic vapor cigarette are simply as efficient in helping smokers quit tobacco as the nicotine patch.
The results were published in prestigious Lancet health journal – View study Documents , add weight to people who feel e-cigarettes should be welcomed as quitting smoking devices.
In one of the first randomized, controlled trials on e-cigarettes, 657 smokers were allocated either e-cigarettes, the nicotine patch or nicotine free e-cigarettes (Placebo). After half a year, 7.8 % of the using e-cigs abstained from tobacco cigarettes, accompanied by those using the nicotine patch at 5.8 % as well as the placebo group at 4.1 per cent. There are minimal substantial changes in adverse incidents seen in between the three groups.
Dr Hayden McRobbie from the Tobacco Dependence Research Unit, Queen Mary University, and co-author of your Lancet study, said,
“The effects were encouraging for smokers that want to try different methods to help them quit.”
“At six-month follow-up, vapor cigs were a minimum of as good as nicotine patches, but participants were more enthusiastic about recommending e-cigarettes to others, in contrast to the patch.
“There are a handful of obvious explanations why. The electronic cigarette does a significantly better job of replacing some behavioural areas of smoking that many people miss when they quit (e.g. the hand-to-mouth dexhpky09 as well as the sensation of smoke with your mouth and throat), and also delivering nicotine.”
E-cigarettes, without or with nicotine, were modestly effective at helping smokers to stop, with a similar achievement of abstinence similar to the nicotine patch, and few adverse events. Uncertainty exists regarding the place of vapor e cig reviews in tobacco control, plus more research is urgently found it necessary to clearly establish their overall benefits and harms at both individual and population levels.
